Myth #6 “It’s Too Late”

If you have presence of mind and can get out of bed, it is never too late to be helped by the changes you make—never. Studies show time and time again that exercise, even starting at the age of ninety, can improve muscle strength, balance, bone density, metabolism, and decrease body fat.

The primary reason why muscles and bones get weaker as we get older is because we don’t use them, not because of the aging process.

How true the old adage is: Use or lose.

Most Americans choose to not use, therefore they lose. But the good news is: it is never too late to consciously build up your level of health and fitness with the right choices.

The basic principles of health, fitness, and longevity don’t change with age. No matter how old you are, whole, unrefined plant foods and the decrease of fat, cholesterol, animal products, toxins such as coffee and alcohol, salt, and refined foods, along with exercise, are critical in decreasing blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and the risk of chronic, degenerative diseases, such as most cancers, heart disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and strokes.

Did you know that the most famous doctor of all, Dr. Spock, improved his health at the age of 90 by adopting a plant-based diet? As recounted by Dan Georgakas, Eula Weaver had a long history of debilitating heart disease to the point of, at the age of 81, not being able to walk more than a few steps. With exercise and significant changes in her diet, by the age of 85 she was running races and setting records.

You have a choice: you can do what you may have always done and watch your health spiral down as you grow older, or you can transform your body and your health, starting right now.

The decision is yours.
